Our hope is that science will eventually find the cause and cure for Lewy body disorders, Alzheimer's, and other debilitating neurological diseases. In the meantime, current treatment is mainly limited to treating the symptoms as they occur. This is especially true for the Lewy body disorders (LBD), where behavioral problems, anxiety, hallucinations and even delusions can start early on.
The drugs most often used to treat these symptoms can cause more problems than they solve. That's why many families and physicians are turning to Integrative Medicine, which incorporates alternative therapies such as, massage, aromatherapy, music therapy and more into standardized treatment plans. These therapies are natural stress management tools and more, designed to support and enhance traditional treatment.
While some of the therapies used may be non-conventional, a guiding principle within Integrative Medicine is to use only those therapies supported by multiple research studies. Partnered with traditional medicine, these alternative therapies can provide a better quality of life for patient and caregiver.
Treating the Whole Person:
If you, like many Americans, have never heard of Integrative Medicine (IM), rest assured that it is becoming a staple in many of the nation's hospitals, universities, and medical schools. Doctors and patients bond with the philosophy of IM and its whole-person approach ... designed to treat the person, not just the disease. IM depends on a partnership between the patient and the doctor, where the goal is to treat the mind, body, and spirit, all at the same time.
For the Caregiver Too:
Caregivers serve in a physically, emotional and spiritually draining capacity with high levels of burn out. Research has shown that caregiver stress levels rank higher than any other professional field including those of firefighters and peace keepers. Caregivers are at high risk for a variety of illnesses, from bad backs to diabetes to heart problems to dementia. They are also at risk for premature death. A caregiver is 60% more likely to die than a non-caregiver of the same age. The main reason for this is long-term stress and physical / emotional exhaustion.
The toll on the individual can be devastating.
We know. We have been there. Now, through our personal experiences, we are here for you and those you serve.
Consider LBDtools.com your tool box where you can find a harmonious blending of traditional treatment and alternative therapies designed to provide care and comfort to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of professional and at home caregivers and their patients suffering from Lewy body dementia, Parkinson's Alzheimer's, or another degenerative disorder.
Our goal, through our books, workshops and seminars, is to educate and inform the professional and layperson about the significant differences and dangers shared between the disorders, and teach effective use of alternative therapies that can provide enhanced comfort and care to patients while improving the health and well being of the caregiver.
Each therapy has a defined protocol or specifically developed methodology taught in our workshops. These protocols have been designed for dementia patients and their caregivers with a flexibility that allows for the needs of the individual.
